Student Speechwriting Competition

Free. Open to students in grades 5 to 12.

Give your students an opportunity for an authentic writing and public-speaking experience in this one-of-a-kind competition. Abraham Lincoln is still remembered for many of his speeches, which profoundly changed our nation and the course of history. Much like Lincoln moved others with his words, this competition asks students to identify a contemporary issue—local, national, or global—and write a short persuasive speech about it. Winners will be chosen for each grade band, and those students will be invited to the Museum to deliver their speech at our Presidents’ Day program on February 20, 2017.
